Soon after the sad demise of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, his devoted followers in Parle decided to setup a permanent memorial of him in Parle, in the form of an institution dedicated to the cause of social service, by continuing to perceive selflessly his mission of awakening, education and uplifting the society.
As a result, Lokmanya Seva Sangh, Parle (The Sangh) was established on 11th March, 1923, The Gudi Padwa, i.e. the new year day of the Hindu calendar, with a broad objective of persistent effort to build up a socially vigilant, disciplined, cultured and progressive society at large.
